My Work

Board & Card Game Design Workshop

Role: Centre Manager (Intern)
Organisation: Yishun Secondary School
Duration: March 2026 – July 2026

Overview
During my internship at Yishun Secondary School, I designed and conducted a five-session board and card game design workshop for a group of secondary school students. The workshop introduced students to the fundamentals of game design, including game mechanics, prototyping, playtesting, and balancing. Students worked collaboratively to develop and refine their own game concepts while learning the importance of player experience and iterative design.

My responsibilities

  • Designed the five-session workshop curriculum.
  • Planned and facilitated weekly lessons and activities.
  • Guided students through brainstorming, prototyping, and playtesting.
  • Adapted teaching methods to suit different learning styles.
  • Encouraged teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving throughout the programme.

Challenges

One of the biggest challenges was keeping students engaged, as not everyone had an interest in game design. I learnt that I could not force students to enjoy the subject, but I could make the lessons more relatable by connecting concepts to games they already enjoyed and by adjusting activities to better suit their interests.

What I learnt

This project strengthened my communication, leadership, and adaptability. It taught me how to manage a classroom, engage students with different personalities and learning styles, and create a supportive environment that encouraged participation and creativity.
